Summary:

Term (duration of contract): Until 31st March 2026

Salary: £35,027 – £45,000

The Creative Director will have a strategic voice in driving creative and cultural opportunities/experiences, including identifying and securing partnerships and collaboration opportunities to strengthen underserved communities (with focus on the Black Country and surrounding areas) of children, young people and young adults (under 35yrs), within the following three key frameworks: Story of Change, Behaviour Change and System Change. This is a new dedicated role, with PbC becoming one of Arts Council England’s new combined arts National Portfolio Organisations (NPO) and will require close collaboration across the organisation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Culture and Creative Leadership
● To collaborate as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and board of directors to drive Arts Council England’s Investment Principles/Outcomes & Let’s Create Strategy (including other governing/arms length organisations

● To become one of our Ambition and Quality champions as part of our Investment Principles.

● To co-devise, develop and implement the organisation’s ambitious business plan alongside the SLT, Board of Directors (BOD) and the wider PbC team in it’s short, midand long-term strategic plans/priorities.

● To advocate our artistic/creative vision and model is recognised and embedded within the organisation and externally across multiple sectors (culture, creative industries, education and youth) within local communities.

● To drive and build programming, projects, commissioning and production of bold and exciting ideas for new/existing work, that is of high quality and relevant to children, young people & young adults, now and in the future, locally, nationally and internationally.

● To reinforce co-creation practices for the benefit of all partnerships and programming to drive engagement and impact with our collaborators/beneficiaries/participants.

● To springboard our Story of Change (Theory of Change) to build support of other organisations to embrace the best practices in the sector.

● To maintain, support, encourage and lead on the company’s commitment to Equality, Equity, Diversity, Dignity, Justice & Inclusion and inspire action in others to champion these core values of the organisation.

● To undertake external roles of leadership via sector infrastructure (e.g. boards, partnerships)

Finance, Fundraising and Governance
● As part of the SLT prepare and oversee the business plan and annual budget for approval by the BOD and report any changes to the finances/budget that impact the organisation’s projects, services and future plans.
● To support the design and development of diversifying our income generation through, donations, fundraising applications, responsive proposals and submissions for external tendering processes to advance new/existing work of the organisation.

● To ensure PbC follows good personnel practice by implementing and reviewing policies & procedures in compliance with the law and best practice.

● To develop new/existing external advisory and committees of the behalf of PbC to develop independence and impartiality to strengthen the organisation.

● To collaborate as part of SLT and Senior Management Team (SMT) ensure the company’s compliance with all statutory requirements as a limited company, including funding agreements and reporting.

● To support the ongoing development of our Governance framework alongside the Board of Directors.

Communication & Advocacy
● To enhance positive relationships with funders, partners and key stakeholders to ensure the organisations’ work and impact is being communicated effectively and efficiently with sector professional/partners and governing arm length bodies (Arts Council England, The National Lottery Community Fund and Sports England).

● To oversee an innovative look and approach to new and emerging media for artistic and creative expression, developing PbC’s digital, online and virtual content.

● To collaborate with the marketing team to ensure the identity and brand of the organisation is being communicated in a clear and coherent manner, ensuring creative development, engagement and digital content is in line with the brand guidelines and promoted through the correct supported channels.

● To play an active role and represent the organisation in the meeting of key stakeholders in the local, regional, national and international arenas, sharing upcoming projects and successful work as a key speaker.

General Responsibilities
● To support and motivate the team to drive performance.
● To represent the organisation within local and regional networks of supporters and stakeholders.
● To participate in regular team meetings and supervision meetings.
● Attend ideas meetings and contribute to discussions about the future of PbC.
● To identify personal development and training opportunities for self and team & disseminate CDP &
training opportunities to PbC staff.
● To contribute ideas that may support the ongoing development of the organisation.
● To contribute to the programming and administration of bespoke commissioned services.
● To ensure confidentiality within the organisation at all times.
● To participate in activities which fall outside of normal working hours as required, e.g. Training, Staff
Meetings, Recruitment/Engagement events, fundraising events, etc.
● To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from
time to time by SLT.

staff and practitioners line managed by the role work within the organisation’s safeguarding and

● To undertake relevant risk assessments before undertaking events/projects/activities for which the
role has direct responsibility.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
● A working knowledge of Arts Councils England’s Let’s Create Strategy and investment
principles and other supporting development/infra-structural agencies.
● A minimum of 5 years in a similar role with the Cultural, Creative, Education and Youth sectors.
● A keen and active interest in the vision and purpose of PbC.
● Working knowledge of the Black Country and surrounding areas (including knowledge of
marginalised communities).
● Experience of working in a busy office environment while managing conflicting
priorities/multiple projects to meeting deadlines. The ability to problem solve, with attention to
detail, good interpersonal skills at all levels both internally and externally.
● To respond to new challenges with agility and a proactive approach with an understanding of
equal opportunities and cultural diversity issues in the delivery of our services.
● To demonstrate a knowledge of business/organisational planning at a Senior level.
● Working knowledge of relevant software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google).

Desirable
● A degree or equivalent experience/qualification(s) in the Cultural, Creative, Education and
Youth contexts.
● Knowledge of youth work and/or previous experience of working within a youth-led
organisation, especially from safeguarding perspective.
