Details: A hackathon event bringing businesses and youth together to tackle local sustainability challenges.

How to get involved: We are looking for corporate sponsorship to work with a business who dedicated to their ESG (environment, social, governance strategies). There are various sponsorship tiers available which we can discuss. As we are looking to have a variety of young people and young adults it’s a great opportunity to also gain youth insights, discuss employment opportunities, and or/ recruitment opportunities. Overview: The Sustainability Hackathon is an innovative and collaborative event designed to bring together local businesses and young minds to address pressing sustainability challenges within the community. By fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to environmental stewardship, this hackathon aims to generate practical and impactful solutions that can be implemented locally, driving progress toward a more sustainable future.

Objectives

1. Collaborative Problem-Solving: Encourage collaboration between businesses, youth, and community stakeholders to identify and tackle local sustainability challenges.
2. Innovation and Creativity: Inspire innovative solutions through the diverse perspectives and skills of participants, leveraging technology, design thinking, and sustainable practices.
3. Youth Empowerment: Provide a platform for young people to engage with real-world problems, develop entrepreneurial skills, and contribute to their communities.
4. Sustainable Impact: Generate actionable ideas and projects that can be piloted or implemented by businesses, local governments, or community organizations to create tangible sustainability outcomes.

Event Format:

Duration: 24-48 hours of intensive, collaborative problem-solving, workshops and energiser activities
Participants: Teams composed of local business representatives, young professionals, university students, and secondary school students.
Mentorship and judges: Industry experts, sustainability professionals, and business leaders will serve as mentors, providing guidance and expertise.
Workshops: Sessions on sustainable practices, business innovation, and design thinking to equip participants with the tools they need to succeed.
Pitch Sessions: Teams will present their solutions to a panel of judges composed of business leaders, sustainability experts, local government, and youth.
Themes: The hackathon will focus on key sustainability themes relevant to the local community, such as:

• Waste Reduction and Recycling
• Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
• Sustainable Transportation
• Water Conservation
• Biodiversity and Green Spaces

Outcome:

Winning Solutions: Top ideas will receive recognition, awards, and the opportunity to be developed further with support from local businesses and community partners.

Implementation Support: Selected projects may receive funding, mentorship, or partnership opportunities to bring their solutions to life.

Community Engagement: The event will raise awareness about sustainability issues and foster a culture of innovation and environmental responsibility in the community.
